BULL OF EPISCOPAL APPOINTMENT
AUXILIARY BISHOP OF NEW YORK
To the most beloved son, Father Lucas Nazaré, of the clergy of Mariana,
elected Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of New York, health and Apostolic Blessing.
The solicitude for all the Churches, which has been divinely entrusted to us as Successor of Peter, moves us to provide diligently for the pastoral care of the Lord’s flock, by appointing pastors who, in communion with the Diocesan Bishop, may shepherd the People of God.
With paternal attention, we turn our gaze to the beloved and newly constituted community of the Diocese of New York, to which we have recently appointed its first pastor, our venerable brother Lucas Tristan.
Considering the many challenges of evangelization in this great urban center and the zeal necessary for the building up of this new particular Church, we gladly welcomed the request of that same Diocesan Bishop to grant him an Auxiliary, so that from the very beginning his episcopal ministry may be fruitfully shared.
Our thought has turned to you, beloved son, who, according to the testimonies received, are distinguished by sound doctrine, priestly virtues, and apostolic zeal, demonstrated in your ministry in the Archdiocese of Mariana. Your piety and dedication lead us to believe that you will fruitfully exercise the episcopal office as a faithful collaborator.
Therefore, with the advice of the Dicastery for Bishops, and by virtue of our supreme Apostolic Authority, WE APPOINT and CONSTITUTE you as Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of New York, assigning to you at the same time the titular episcopal See of Martirano, with all the rights and obligations which, according to the norms of the Code of Canon Law, pertain to this office.
It will be incumbent upon you to receive episcopal ordination from a Catholic Bishop, observing the liturgical norms, after having made the profession of faith and the oath of fidelity to Us and to Our Successors, in accordance with the sacred canons.
We exhort the clergy and faithful of your new Diocese to welcome you in a spirit of faith and sincere ecclesial communion, offering you their support and prayers in the fulfillment of your ministry, in union with their Bishop and yours.
May the Blessed Virgin Mary, whom the Brazilian people invoke with the tender title of Aparecida and the Americans as the Immaculate Conception, sustain, enlighten, and protect you, together with the whole diocesan community entrusted to your pastoral care.
Given and issued in Rome, at the Lateran Palace, on the eighteenth day of the vocational month of August, in the Jubilee Year 2025, the first of our Pontificate.

A solicitude por todas as Igrejas, que nos foi divinamente confiada como Sucessor de Pedro, move-nos a prover com diligência o cuidado pastoral do rebanho do Senhor, designando pastores que, em comunhão com o Bispo diocesano, apascentem o Povo de Deus.
Com paterna atenção, dirigimos o nosso olhar para a amada e recém-constituída comunidade da Diocese de Nova York, para a qual designamos recentemente o seu primeiro pastor, o nosso venerável irmão Lucas Tristan.
Considerando os múltiplos desafios da evangelização nesse grande centro urbano e o zelo necessário para a edificação desta nova Igreja particular, acolhemos de bom grado a solicitação do mesmo Bispo diocesano de lhe concedermos um Auxiliar, para que, desde o início, o seu múnus episcopal seja frutuosamente partilhado.
O nosso pensamento dirigiu-se a ti, amado filho, que, segundo os testemunhos recebidos, te distingues pela sã doutrina, pelas virtudes sacerdotais e pelo zelo apostólico, demonstrados no teu ministério na Arquidiocese de Mariana. A tua piedade e a tua dedicação fazem-nos crer que poderás desempenhar com fruto o ofício episcopal como fiel colaborador.
Portanto, com o parecer do Dicastério para os Bispos, no uso da nossa suprema Autoridade Apostólica, TE NOMEAMOS e CONSTITUÍMOS como bispo auxiliar da Diocese de Nova York, atribuindo-te ao mesmo tempo a Sé titular episcopal de Martirano, com todos os direitos e obrigações que, segundo as normas do Código de Direito Canônico, são inerentes a este cargo.
Caber-te-á receber a ordenação episcopal de um Bispo católico, observando as normas litúrgicas, depois de teres feito a profissão de fé e o juramento de fidelidade a Nós e aos Nossos Sucessores, conforme os sagrados cânones.
Exortamos o clero e os fiéis da tua nova Diocese a que te acolham com espírito de fé e sincera comunhão eclesial, oferecendo-te o seu apoio e orações no desempenho do teu ministério, em união com o seu e teu Bispo.
Que a Virgem Maria, a quem os brasileiros invocam com o terno título de Aparecida e os americanos como Imaculada Conceição, te ampare, ilumine e proteja, a ti e a toda a comunidade diocesana confiada aos teus cuidados pastorais.
